Bears Air Rifle

Bears Air Rifle – Level 5 (Ages 10-14)

Program

Level 5 Bears Air Rifle is a program for athletes aged 10-14 and is for both athletes new to biathlon as well as returning athletes.  The program will be split into three based on skill as outlined below. Athletes will progress through the levels at their own pace and will be assigned a group by the coach.  Athletes will be challenged to complete each level.

  • Group 1 – Introduction to Biathlon. First year, no Experience, learn the FUNdamentals. Incorporate with appropriate cross country ski level, based upon ski skills.
  • Group 2 – Returning Biathletes interested in refining the FUNdamentals and potentially participating in local races. Incorporate with appropriate cross country ski level, based upon ski skills.
  • Group 3 – Transition from a rifle rest to Prone Cuff & Sling. Incorporate with appropriate cross country ski level, based upon ski skills.

The program will engage athletes in a fast paced and fun learning environment where they will learn the basic skills of precision shooting. Athletes will combine this knowledge with their skate skiing to participate in races within the team.

Note: Biathlon is a sport of both precision shooting and cross-country skate skiing. At this stage of development (Learn to Train), there is a strong emphasis on skiing. It is a requirement that in order to participate in the Bears Air Rifle programs, athletes will be registered in the XC Ski program in one of Level 5 Ski skill Development or Level 6 Ski Race Development Programs.
