Adult Biathlon

Adult .22 Biathlon Ages 17+

This is a program designed to allow adults to learn and experience the sport of Biathlon in a Team environment. Athletes will be instructed in range protocols, safety, precision shooting, skate skiing and other aspects of the sport. A willingness to develop an intermediate level of skate skiing is required

Race Events – athletes will be supported at all Race Events that the Club’s Race Development .22 athletes are attending

Self directed training outside of scheduled Team training is encouraged but not required.

Adults 17+

Schedule:

Starting September 28,  Saturdays and Wednesday evenings (as daylight permits). Dryland training will take place until adequate snow coverage at Highlands Nordic.  Program ends mid March.

Equipment & Program requirements:

    • .22 Biathlon rifle (rent or own)
    • PAL 
    • Personal ammunition
    • Biathlon Canada membership
    • Roller ski poles
    • Striding/dryland ski poles. Typically 5-10 cm shorter than classic poles.
    • Bike Helmet, reflective clothing, gloves
    • Sunglasses
    • Wrist watch with stopwatch/timer functions
    • Water bottle and carrier
    • Access to skate rollerskis
    • Access to appropriate race skate skis
    • Access to early season rock skis (Crown & Skate)
    • Skate poles (length suggested by coach)
    • Skate boots
    • Blue non fluoro glide wax
    • Season trail pass, purchased from Highlands Nordic
    • Access to Mtn. Bike
    • Participation in HTB Service Hour Obligation program

Athletes are expected to read and abide by the athlete Code of Conduct

Fees:

Program fee $1050, Range fee $200.  Service Hour Obligation – see here for an explanation of this program as well as the chart of hours required by program.

 Other Fees & Costs 

  • Biathlon Ontario / Biathlon Canada registration fees: You must register with BiON/BiCAN before registering with HTB. Athletes will not be permitted to participate in any HTB training activities without this registration.
  • Highlands Nordic season pass: athletes registered in Adult Biathlon must purchase a season pass from Highlands Nordic.
  • Race entry fees
  • Travel, food, accommodation, waxing and coach expenses for Training Camps and Race Events. 
  • All expenses will be charged to athletes on a cost recovery basis
  • Failure to pay deposits and final charges by the stated deadlines may result in suspension and/or dismissal from the Program

Adult Biathlon Eco-Aims Program

We are pleased to again have the support of Biathlon Canada/Sport Canada Grant to offer an electronic biathlon program for adults.  This new non-firearm “Eco-Aims” electronic equipment is perfect for people interested in learning and participating in the sport of Biathlon recreationally.

The program is designed as a fun way for adults to get introduced to Biathlon, learn the principles of marksmanship and participate in some fun racing.

Program Details & Inclusions:

  • Included are 5 Sessions through the 2025-26 season
  • Each session will be Sunday Morning 10 am until 12 pm
  • Dry-Land Introductory Lesson – November 16, 2025
  • On-Snow Dates January 4 & 18 and February 9 & 22, 2026
  • The first half of each session will focus on shooting skills
  • The Second half of each session will focus on combo drills 
  • Each Session will conclude with a fun race
  • Program will be led by Scott McCulloch & Jan Bergstrom, with the assistance of some guest coaches
  • Eco-Aims Rifles will be provided by the club

Program Prerequisites: 

  • Must be Registered with Biathlon Canada/Ontario as a member.  Register on Zone 4 here : BICAN Registration (A recreation membership is good)
  • Must be an HTB Member.  Program leaders, board members, or registration in another program (XC Masters) are already members.  Register if necessary on Team Unify Here : HTB Registration
  • Must have Highlands Nordic Ski Pass, either season pass or day pass is good.  Review ski pass information here : Highlands Nordic
  • The 5 session Program Cost is $150.00.  Register for the program through HTB Team Unify Events Page located Here: HTB Events
  • Participants should have prior XC skiing experience
  • The minimum age to participate is 17 years old as of December 31, 2025
  • We are a volunteer run club, please refer to the Service Hour Program here.  As a participant in this program you will be required to perform 2 service hours.
